resources.

natural and human environment.
-

National and International Outings
Sierra Club Outings sponsors over 300 national and international outings
each year—covering every activity from backpacking, rafting and volunteer
"service" projects to lodge and family outings. These outings combine the
exploration of extraordinary natural areas with the conservation and
environmental goals of the Club.
Chapter and Group Outings
Local chapter and group outings introduce members to the wild places in
their own backyard. These outings may be day hikes, peak scrambles,
bird-watching trips, or forays into the remaining natural areas of a major urban
region.
Inner City Outings
Inner City Outings introduce inner city youth to mountains, forests, rivers,
and meadows. Activities such as hiking, backpacking, kayaking, and rafting teach
participants valuable social skills - cooperation, trust, and problem solving
strategies
Clair Tappaan Lodge
Clair Tappaan Lodge, built in 1934 by volunteers, is an excellent base for
winter and summer recreation. Located near scenic and historic Donner Pass in
the Sierra Nevada, the lodge is known for its friendly, casual atmosphere and
low nightly rates.
Lodges and Huts
The Sierra Club operates several alpine lodges and huts in California that can
be used to explore and enjoy wild areas. (Members must provide their own
sleeping bags and food supplies.)
Sierra Club founder John Muir was convinced that the best way to persuade
people to fight to save valuable wild areas was to take them into the wilderness
and let them experience for themselves the beauty that needs defending. As a
result of this conviction, in 1901 the Sierra Club Outing program began.
